01Match format

One player against one player on one basket. Regulation lasts six minutes or until a player reaches 11 points, whichever happens first.

6 min · first to 11
02Winning the game

The first player to reach 11 wins immediately. If time expires with one player ahead, that player wins. There is no win-by-two requirement.

No win by two
03Home, Guest & the start

LINEAL randomly assigns the Home and Guest designations before play. Home receives the first possession to start regulation. There is no shoot-for-ball.

Home starts
04Standard scoring

A made basket from inside the arc is worth one point. A made basket from behind the arc is worth two points. A free throw is worth one point before Duel Time.

1 point · 2 points
05Make it, keep it

After a made basket, the scorer keeps possession. Play restarts with a check ball at the top of the arc.

Scorer retains
06Misses before Duel Time

During the first five minutes, every missed shot stops play. Possession switches to the defender and the next possession begins with a check ball.

Miss · stop · switch
07The check ball

Dead-ball possessions restart at the top of the arc. The defender checks the ball to the offensive player, and play begins when the check is completed.

08Duel Time

The final minute of regulation is Duel Time. The scorer’s table announces its start. Rebounds become live and every scoring value doubles for the full sixty seconds.

09Live rebounds & clearing

During Duel Time and overtime, rebounds stay live. An offensive rebound may be finished immediately. After a defensive rebound, the ball must be cleared beyond the arc before a scoring attempt.

Duel Time · overtime
10Double points

During Duel Time and overtime, all scoring values double: inside-arc baskets count for two, behind-the-arc baskets count for four, and a made free throw counts for two.

2 · 4 · FT 2
11End of regulation

When six minutes expire, the player with the higher score wins immediately. Overtime is played only when the score is tied.

Leader wins
12Overtime format

A tied game pauses for one minute, then moves to a two-minute overtime. Rebounds are live and points are doubled. If still tied, another two-minute overtime is played until a winner is decided.

2 minute periods
13Overtime possession

Guest starts the first overtime. Home starts the second overtime, and the starting possession continues to alternate for every additional period. There is no shoot-for-ball.

Guest · Home · alternate
14Player timeouts

Each player has one 30-second timeout. It may be requested during any dead ball in regulation, including Duel Time. Player timeouts cannot be used in overtime.

1 × 30 seconds
15Pace of play

There is no fixed shot clock. If a possession lasts too long, the referee or scorer’s table starts an audible 10-second countdown. Failure to release a shot before zero results in a turnover.

Official 10 count
16Fouls one and two

On a player’s first two defensive personal fouls, no free throw is awarded. The offensive player retains possession and play restarts with a check ball. An offensive foul is a turnover.

No free throw
17From the third foul

Beginning with a player’s third defensive personal foul, that foul and every later defensive personal foul awards the opponent one free throw.

Third foul onward
18Shooting fouls & and-one

There is no automatic two-free-throw award for a foul on a two-point attempt. The normal foul-count rule applies. If the fouled shot is made, the basket counts plus one free throw.

Made basket + 1 FT
19Flagrants & undercutting

Moving underneath an airborne shooter is a Flagrant 1: one free throw and an official warning. A second such offence by the same player is a Flagrant 2 and expulsion. Two flagrant fouls also mean disqualification.

Protect the landing space
20Conduct, youth & officials

Two technical fouls result in disqualification. The three-second back-to-basket rule, offensive three seconds in the paint and two-metre defender-proximity rule are youth-only and do not apply to adult competition. Referee decisions on court are final.
